Info on the restaurant Fattigatti's -- it was a very unique place right outside of Bridgeville PA -- it has long since then burned down and they never rebuilt it sorry to say... another wonderful landmark that brings back a lot of memories and good food/fun for Pittsburghers.

I grew up in Cranberry Township, but moved to Florida about 30 years ago. So much family still there that I haven't seen in so long, so much I miss... The city, the bridges, the neighborhoods, the accent, once a Steeler fan-always a Steeler fan, hoagies, the ice-cream truck, picking blackberries and violets, Fattigatti's, Big Boys, getting a "pie in your eye" on your birthday at some great joint my parents took us to- name escapes me, the Pittsburgh Zoo, the incline, hanging out at the Dairy in Bridgeville, Kennywood, real homemade pierogies...my Polish/Slovak grandmother and and grandpap ...

This city is possibly the most amazing city in the world. My favorite thing about it is our amazing unity that we have under our traditions and sports teams. I've never been to another place where I can just walk up to someone yell "Go Steelers!" or anything else like that and they don't freak out. It's awesome how close this city is.

Playwrite, August Wilson and the neighborhood where he lived and wrote about (The Hill District).
The Pittsburgh Steelers and all of the customs, traditions, and fantatical behavior that goes with the Pittsburgh culture.
The rich African American history, including jazz musicians, negro baseball, neighborhoods, political figures, and work ethics.

The people. The people make Pittsburgh everything that it is and stands for today. There are so many cultures that ended up in this corner of America, due to the mass migration of ex-slaves from the south as well as Irish, Italian, and Polish families from the east all looking for work in the booming Steel Mills.
Pittsburgh is like a small town that ignores the fact that it's a big city. People are all about respect here. It's not about races or classes, it's about neighborhoods and families. Here's an example of how Pittsburghers treat others: a friend of mine went to the Burgh and got lost on a few back streets. He stopped and asked a guy for directions to the "Strip District" and the guy invited him inside for some chow.

I grew up in the South Hills, and what I love about Pittsburgh is in no special order,Primanti Bros., Danny's hoagies, Friday fish fries, Iron city draft, all the ethnic specialties, the Buc's, The Pens, and of course the Steelers. The second to none skyline, the culture, but most of all the people, the look you in the eye, hand shake deal people, 8 years to retirement and I will be back!!

Growing up in Washington Pa & Because I’ve lived in a few different states, I can see & feel the difference in people. They just don’t have the true love of life, pride, & compassion like Pittsburghers. I’ve noticed many people “live to work” Pittsburghers “work to live” and live they do!. One memory as a child is the Kennywood signs getting bigger & bigger as we drove closer & the thrill of seeing Kennywood Park. I too will be moving back to stay. It’s just magnetic.

Having moved to ALT, Georgia, and now living in Maryland, I really miss Pittsburgh. The people are simple, happy, real people that love life and want just living the life that was given to them. There is no looking for more money or more things, just appreciation of family, friends, and health. I miss Pittsburgh and all the wonderful food, families, shopping, and communities that go along with the city, and of course the Great STEELERS!!!!

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I have been gone for 12 years. But do we ever really leave? There are so many wonderful things that I miss about Pittsburgh. I once told a friend that although Pittsburgh is a "big" city, it has a small-town feel to it. The people are so friendly and loyal. You can take the girl out of Pittsburgh, but you can never take the Pittsburgh out of the girl. The Schenley Park ice skating rink in winter, driving through Schenley Park and how beautiful it is. I love trees because Pittsburgh is so full of gorgeous trees. I miss the food, too. There's no place like Pittsburgh! Congratulations on 250 wonderful years!

I have lived in Texas for my entire life. My mother, on the other hand, was born and raised in Carnegie, PA. Every summer she would pack up my sister and I and bring us up to Pittsburgh to see my grandparents. I remember my grandmother's babushka, the Steel Phantom at Kennywood, the water slides at Sandcastles, eating at Kings and Eat 'N Park, traveling up the inclines to get a view of the city, and the enormous church we would attend every Sunday. That church, along with the skyline, were the largest buildings I had ever seen. There is one other thing which I noticed back then that age, experience, and travel stands out in my mind. Nowhere, outside of Texas, have I seen such immense pride by people in what they have. Frankly, there is something heartening about people who take pride in something greater than themselves. And when you leave the company of such people your heart aches for the loss. Far too many people take pride in nothing and we live with the consequences of that everyday. I would be proud, (and likely very cold,) to call Pittsburgh home. Just one Texan's opinion.

I love Pittsburgh and growing up there. Dad used to take me to the Steeler games at Three Rivers. The times at Point State Park with the grandchildren....seeing their faces as they marveled and took in the sights as my brother and I did many years before. The bridges, the Incline, Station Sq. are something to make any Pittsburgher proud to call it HOME! Happy Birthday to our wonder city.

I live in Colorado now, but if I could, I would spend every (other) summer weekend in Pittsburgh. I work with so many people from all over the country, and when I tell them about all there is to do in Pittsburgh... I get a lot of "Wow, I did not know" But I will tell you, Pittsburgh does not promote itself right. Pittsburgh is probably the most EuroFriendly city in the US. And I doubt there are many cities with so many trees within a mile of the center of town. The food is unique, everyone I know that lived there, constantly talks about the food. The history is unique, French-Indian War, District of West Augusta, Steamboats, Panama Canal, Amazing Floods.

Danny's Hoagies! I have driven 2,482 miles for one (I live in Castaic, CA). I grew up on Danny's Hoagies when I lived in Bethel Park. I bring home suitcases full of them when I am in town and now all my California friends put "in their orders" when I am going to Pittsburgh. If only they had a franchise in California . . .

I agree with Judy. I now live in Los Angeles. What I love about Pittsburgh are the things I didn't notice at the time and now miss terribly. When I returned to Pittsburgh for a visit, I was struck by how many people - strangers all - began talking to me for no good reason that I could tell. I was annoyed and kept wondering, "What do they want? I'm not giving them any of my pocket change." It took me several days to realize they were being friendly. It's quite sad and telling about the differences between the two cities that I had forgotten about the friendliness of strangers. The other telling point -- in Pittsburgh it is rare to see a fence around someone's yard. As kids we ran from yard to yard and every neighbor knew us by name. In Los Angeles it's impossible to find a house without a wall, sometimes two, around it and I rarely see my neighbors. That does it, I'm moving back.

There are lots of things I love about the Burgh including the fact that people are "real" here. I love walking on Fifth Avenue in Oakland from about St Pauls Cathedral to the Pitt Union-the huge old buildings and Heinz Chapel. It almost looks like European cities with those huge buildings.

The people from Pittsburgh are #1. Love the beautiful downtown skyline, pierogi pizza, lunch with my mom at the "Tick Tock" at Kaufmann's when she used to work downtown...a great restaurant that used to be at the William Penn Hotel called "The Yellow Brick Road" - so many things! Most of all, I love the big heart that Pittsburghers all seem to have, no matter where we wind up...

I'm a disabled individual and I can always rely on my fellow Pittsburghers to assist me with things like picking my cane up after it's fallen on the ground, holding the doors for me when I enter or exit a building and even picking me up after I'd fallen on the ground outside a local restaurant!! Many people have even expressed concern about my disability, asking how it happened (it was a stroke) and commenting that I look good and wishing me God's continued blessings.

While waiting in line anywhere, Pittsburghers make the wait tolerable by 'chit-chatting' with other people in line. No Pittsburghers seems to be put off by this friendly conversation.

I was raised here in Pittsburgh and I LOVE this city!! A few things I love are Allegheny Cementry where a number of famous Pittsburghers are buried from Jane Gray Swisshelm to Stephen Foster. The other item that bears mentioning is St Anthony's Chapel in Troy Hill. It houses the worlds largest relic collection outside the Vatican. However, Pittsburgh's true strength and appeal comes from its people and wonderful neighborhoods. I'm proud to be a Pittsburgher!!

And if the landscape weren't something to boast about - how about the people! Such a sense of community and pride, friendliness and helpfulness is beyond compare. I've loved Pittsburgh since the first day I saw it when I came from Germany in 1962 to be married in West Virginia in 1963. In the 1990's I had a cherished condo at Chatham Tower and served as president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association. The DNA reached out to the residents in all residential buildings downtown and we had quite a vibrant organization. We also had ideas on acknowledging more the needs of the downtown residents, i.e., how to shift the focus from "alive when commuters are in town" to "dead when they're gone" but... Hope springs eternal.
Congratulations on your exciting new Website!

I am a transplant from Lawrence County and have lived here for over 11 years. I moved here because of the many hospitals and the bus transportation. Probably what I love most is that, with so many colleges and universities, there is a super-abundance of young people filled with energy and ideas. I always look forward to the influx of students in the late summer.

It's the people of Pittsburgh that I love. I've had a lot of opportinities to work with some really great people in many of Pittsburgh's great neighborhoods. I live in Cleveland - yes, I know the great rivalry - but put that aside. "Yuns" got outstanding hospitality and I'll keep coming back! Great initiative, Joanne! Keep up the outstanding efforts!!!

Although I live in Akron, Ohio, Pittsburgh, has been my "second home" for over fifteen years. I'm impressed with Pittsburgh's ability to transform itself from a largly blue-collar, industrial city into such a vibrant business capital. I speak often of Pittsburgh as the poster-child of how northern industrial cities can make the shift if its leaders chart that course.
While others complain, Pittsburgh just did it!

I once worked near Pittsburgh. I love that there are so many different types of things to do in and around the city. There is great dining, shows, exhibits, stores galore, and so much more!! It truly is a great city!

I have lived here all my life and would invite anyone to come visit this wonderful, exciting city. We have so much to offer here! From fine dining, beautiful travel views, four wonderful seasons and friendly people everywhere! Come and visit us anytime! We welcome you with open arms in the "Burgh".

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and consider it a privilege to live here. We've raised our daughters here and thankfully they want to stay to raise their families as well. Why go anywhere else. We have all the amenities of a large city plus it's a beautiful, clean and friendly place to live. And how about those Steelers!

The friendly people who are willing to go the extra mile to help when someone less fortunate.

Pittsburgh has the best 4th of July fireworks that I have ever seen. I hope you have something special for our World Champion STEELERS this year.

I love to bring friends and visitors from other cities to Mt Washington on a clear evening. It completely changes their perception of Pittsburgh. Everyone has this view of Pittsburgh as a "hazy, dirty steel town'. It's NOT. It is beautiful, clear, clean and green. The city has done wonderful things to draw people to the North Side for Ball games, and the South Side and the Waterfront for entertainment. I can't of very many other cities with a skyline as pretty as ours.

I have such fond memories of Pittsburgh...getting all dressed up in my finest to go shopping "downtown" with my family and eating at Kaufmann's Tic Toc or Hornes's Tea Room ( I wonder what ever happen to my white gloves?) Also, listening to the Pirate Games on the radio during all our summer cookouts and watching the Steelers on TV through the long winter months.
I love Grant Street...it reminds me of Park Avenue in NYC and also the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the culture district and the crowds and wonderful aromas of the Strip District right before the holidays.

The one thing you never want to say to me is "there is nothing to do in Pittsburgh."OH SO WRONG!" The art scene, the live theater, affordable housing, the great jazz artists, and on and on. And, a lot of these events are free. One of the newest additions to our city is the Pittsburgh Glass Center, it's terrific. There is a great deal of energy and fun to be had in our town. Enjoy it!

I love the "STILLERS". Next season its one for the other hand.

People are always astounded the first time they enter into the hillside entrance of the Ft. Pitt tunnel and exit unto a view of a city unfolding before them. Our city has a breathtaking skyline, which is only enhanced by the darkness.
Oh, and let's not forget the Primanti Bros. sandwiches!

I love the sports teams, the Strip District, the Waterfront, the "small town" feeling is a big city and most of all...the friendly people.

I love the people who live here. They are honest, hard working and have a truly wonderful sense of humor. It is a unique caring culture that I have not found in other parts of the country.

I love this town because I feel it's the perfect mix between midwest and east coast. No other city combines cultural diversity, progressive thinking, and genuine integrity like Pittsburgh. And just think, if we had the weather here that they do in Florida, this would be the undisputed coolest city in the world.
Posted By: Anne (Tue Feb 7 11:49:23 CST 2006)
It took me to move to the midwest to realize the truly "friendly" drivers that Pittsburgh has! When I was recently asked what I thought about "Midwest hospitality", I thought, "You don't hold a candle to Pittsburgh!"
Posted By: Bonnie (Tue Feb 7 11:16:36 EST 2006)
Pittsburgh feels like a small town but it has the cultural amenities of a large city. It's a great place to live!

I have lived in Pittsburgh almost my entire life. It is a great city with wonderful people. Everything from excellent dining to super shopping. And of course we can't forget our Fantastic football team!! GO STEELERS!!

Besides the gorgeous night view of the city and its three rivers when you come through the Fort Pitt tunnel or from atop Mt. Washington....I love the friendliness and spirit of the Pittsburgh people. In the face of adversity, like the closing of the steel mills in the '80's and the floods of 2004, we come together, support each other and rebuild.
Posted By: Cindy (Tue Feb 7 07:21:18 EST 2006)
I love the Steelers of course. I also love how the people of Pittsburgh are very friendly. I also love my commute on the Parkway East in the morning. It gives me time to catch up on my gossip in the carpool.
Posted By: Patty (Tue Feb 7 05:55:07 EST 2006)
Having lived in 3 other states, I have to say that I love the people. There is an element of genuineness that is lacking elsewhere. I also love exiting from the Fort Pitt Tunnel early in the morning to see the most beautiful view of the city right where the three rivers meet. It is so unique!

I love that in Piitsburgh you can have many of the same benefits of a larger city, theatre, sports, diverse population, great shopping (the Strip!!) wonderful restuarnts and a view from Mt. Washington that is hard to beat -yet we have a great sense of community and neighbors. There is a level of safety and security that is always welcoming and reassuring. The people of this great city are also a huge part of what makes Pittsburgh a place to love. Pittsburghers are hard working, loyal, diverse and are able to come together to help their own or those in need outside of the 'burgh. This is a great city and I am glad that someone is taking the time to promote it and the wonderful people who live here.

What a City...what other city can say that they have a Cathedral of Learning? It's a wonderful place of fine-minded people who love to laugh and who have brilliant minds. This city reflects the gifts of the people...

I love the fact that drivers are the most courteous in the country. They will let one change lanes and the greatful driver gives a wave of the hand in appreciation.

A big city that feels and acts like your home town neighborhood.
Posted By: Jim (Mon Feb 6 17:13:58 EST 2006)
I love how Pittsburgh has all the benefits of a big city - culture, professional sports teams, major corporate headquarters, etc. - but still maintains a small town feeling. Traffic is mild, the people are friendly, and the "city" is contained by the geography of the mountains and rivers. It's a wonderful place to get the best of city living excitement and small town comfort.
Posted By: Sally (Mon Feb 06 2006 16:53:28 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time))
I love the diverse population. The people of Pittsburgh make this city great! Also, we are the only city with 5 Super Bowl wins. We are the greatest sports town supported by the greatest fans.

Pittsburgh is the city that never gets down, no matter what is happening. The Pittsburgh spirit is "can do," "Work hard," "Make it Happen," "whatever it takes," and so forth. That's why we're the city of champions!!!!

I came to Pittsburgh from Texas in 1964 with the Air Force. Pittsburgh was different then. I'll never forget asking for directions one day and after a long thought the person said: "you can't get there from here". That's what I like about Pittsburgh. Everything is a potential adventure!
